Bodrog floodplain - Tokaj-Bodrogzug Protected Landscape Area
In spring, the area may be fully inundated, the floods transform the area into a lake. After the water sinks, the appearing canals, stream, moors, wetlands show an exceptional abundance of wildlife.
These treasures are to be protected by the Tokaj-Bodrogzug Protected Landscape Area, established in 1986, belonging to the Aggtelek National Park Administration.
The territory of Bodrogzug is one of the most beautiful water tour areas of the country.

The largest threat to the meadows and wetland habitats of Bodrogzug is the invasion of the false indigo bush, imported from North America. We try to prevent the dissemination of the false indigo bush by managing the grasslands. The results of the work are best proven by surveying the vegetation.
An important part of the nature conservancy tasks at the floodplains of Bodrogköz is the fight against aggressive, imported species. Green ash is a problem in the alluvial forests, since it takes up the living space of the domestic species and it is almost impossible to eradicate.
The landscape of the Bodrogköz area used to be subject to the rivers Tisza and Bodrog for ages, their floods nourished the meadows and led fish into the ponds. However, during the last 200 years, the landscape has changed significantly. The wetlands, moors and forests dominated by water were replaced by arable land and agricultural fields. How and why did this happen?
